Writing Prompt, Day 10: Dragon

Envision a dragon. Use descriptive language.

A thief gazed into the dimly lit cave. The light glinted off the dragon’s dark, black scales. The small amount of moonlight was only enough to hint at the size and shape of the beast. It was much larger than any other animal the thief had ever seen. It was roughly the size of seven or eight fully grown elephants. From tip to tail it had to be at least 150 feet long. Its breath rattled the cave. The mountain of gold that the giant was resting on trembled beneath its breath. The thief tried to sneak a few pieces and quickly the dragon began to wake.

The thief froze. The dragon moved further into the light. The tips of its scales were tinted a deep, blood red color. Its wings spread out and were nearly wider than the length of its body. Its eyes were an intense and hypnotic shade of green. As it opened its mouth, its teeth were illuminated. There were a musty shade of yellow and the size of a small child.

The thief was so frozen by fear and awe that he never saw it coming. The dragon had snatched him up with its strong talons. It gripped him so tightly that he could barely breath. The dragon shook out the gold from his pockets, held him at arms length, and roared in his face. The thief began to lose consciousness just as the dragon tossed him into the air. Immediately the night air was illuminated by vicious flames from the mouth of the dragon.

The dragon rested on its mountain of gold and quickly returned to sleep, its possessions and greed still very much intact. As the dragon drifted into a light sleep a cloud moved of the the moon and darkened the cave further. This continued until finally the dragon was shrouded in darkness. All that could be heard was the rumbling of its breath and rattling of its treasure.
